Mackenzie was born 15 years ago in Russia with fibular hemimelia, which resulted in both her legs being amputated below the knee and her parents abandoning her. She spent her first few years in a convent orphanage before being rescued and adopted by an older couple, Bruce and Kathleen, and brought to Oregon in the US when she was 3. Both her legs were amputated below the knee shortly afterwards. When she was 9 her Mum got ill, her Dad found he couldn't cope with her disabilities, ASD, anxiety and ADHD, so, when she was 10, Bruce packed up some of her stuff and told her they were visiting an aunt. Instead, he drove her to the offices of the Department of Child and Family Services, and left her there, leaving Mackenzie distraught. Since then, she has been bounced around orphanages or living on the streets after running away. Because of her neurodivergence, she'll always assume that she can't do something new and won't want to try in case she messes it up, a little encouragement is all she normally needs.
