During the early days of his apprenticeship with Kipper Harpell, Rujiel De’Vand was sent to survive alone in the Silverwood Forest for two tendays as a test of resilience. Struggling at first, he gradually adapted, fashioning traps and using magic to aid his survival. One fateful day by the river, he witnessed two desperate deer calling out to their stranded calf, which clung to a branch amid the rushing current. Standing over the calf was a massive black wolf, which Rujiel mistook for a worg—a remnant of the Many-Arrows horde from the war.

Knowing he stood no chance in direct combat, Rujiel lured the beast into a chase, leading it toward a hidden cliffside. At the last moment, he swung to safety using an overhanging branch, sending the worg plummeting into the forest below. Returning to the river, he used mage hand to guide the calf to shore, where its parents waited. Instead of fear, the deer gazed at Rujiel with an unnatural intelligence. Over time, he discovered their celestial heritage and learned
