A Dominant should be in control of themselves first and foremost. They should be confident, caring, intelligent, passionate and patient. They do not allow ego to get in the way of learning, both about themselves and their submissive.
When they meet a submissive, they are kind and guiding without demanding ritual of them. They do not demand respect, they EARN it. They explore the mind of the the submissive first, learning their strengths. They are not predators, but protectors. To possess a submissive, They know they must first EARN their respect. To do this, they must prove they are what they say they are, and that they care for the submissive. They would push the limits only to build up the submissive, not tear them down. A true Dominant knows how wonderful the gift of submission is, and is willing to prove the trust they place in them is worthy.
