We'll imagine D/s is a coloring book, with nothing in it. The Dominant wants the submissive as Their property, and the submissive is interested in the Dom. So the Dom asks the submissive to submit to Them, by handing them a blank coloring book with nothing it it at all. The sub takes the book, opens it, and draws pictures in it the way they want it to look, draws exactly what they desire to have in their submission and gives the book back to the Dom. They look it over, and if acceptable, it then it is Their duty to color in the book and care for it. But no matter what They do, They absolutely HAVE to color only within the lines drawn by the submissive.
