I borrowed this from someone else but it sums up the basics of good RP

Emoting is describing what you are thinking, feeling, and doing. It is the KEY to SL sex and roleplay.

1) Take turns emoting with your partner!

2) To show an action type "/me" at the start of the line. Use quotation marks to indicate speech within the action description. You may also encase the action in *'s (e.g. *smiles*) HInt: type "/me's" to start with a possessive, such as "Courtney Sinister's drink falls from her hand."

3) NEVER EMOTE WHAT THE OTHER PERSON IS FEELING OR DOING! Don't emote that I am turned on, moaning, crying, smiling, or pissed. I control me, you control you.

4) Don't try to write an erotic novel, Short descriptions of what you are feeling and doing are what works best. People who use overwrought prose think they are good emoters--they are NOT. Simple and sexy is good.

5) Leave your partner some room to react--don't finish an action to which they should be able to respond without giving them a chance.
