Hello I'm SweetRose. I was born in Jamaica but raised In New jersey Im 34 Years old. I come from a family of storytellers.
My mother will tell these epic tales of growing up a farmer in
Jamaica. My grandfather had amazing riddles he would spin and my pops loves to tell jokes; story
goes that his own father was a traveling musician. I think that oral traditional of storytelling was one I came
to through nurture and by blood. I’ve been writing poetry since I was young, about eight or nine, but I really
got into poetry because I wanted to be a rapper. In fact, at my first poetry slam I was fourteen and I performed
Poetry usually comes fast. I’ll see something or hear something and have to get it down on paper quick. I’m moved
by the music of poetry and so a lot of it has to do with the wordplay and the precision of imagery being captured
as soon as possible. In fiction, I need to sit with a piece and really show up as often as possible to hang out
