6. Mizuage

Mizuage is a practice of oiran or prostitutes before WW2, selling their virginity to the highest bidding patron. But it is often wrongly thought to have been practiced the same by geisha too (as seen in the movie "Memoirs of a Geisha"). However, historically, geisha's Mizuage never involved the selling of virginity.
